As Frank Talmadge Phelps 
wrote in the June 1962 Thoroughbred of California:
.Swaps won at distances from five furlongs to a mile and five furlongs, 
under weights up to 130 pounds over surfaces rated from fast to muddy, at tracks from one-coast to the other; and rewrote the list of time records from a mile to 1 5/8 miles with six world marks, one American record and two track standards to this credit.

But, beyond even these remarkable accomplishments, 
he gave his beholders a sense of exhilaration, of the eternal fitness of things - a lifting of the spirit such as can be achieved only by a master work of art, 
whether fashioned by man or by nature.
